July 28, 1922 – October 26, 2021
Althea Reibel Strong, age 99, of Wilkesville, passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Jenkins Care Community in Wellston. She was born July 28, 1922 in Pomeroy, Ohio, daughter of the late Henry W. Reibel and Edna Logan Reibel. Althea graduated from Pomeroy High School with the class of 1941, then went on to obtain a cosmetology license from the Columbus School of Cosmetology. She was the former owner and operator of Althea's Beauty Shop in Wilkesville for 60 years, along with being a substitute instructor of cosmetology at Buckeye Hills Career Center. Althea worked with her husband, Harley and father-in-law, Joe in the Strong and Son Funeral Home in Wilkesville for many years. She continued helping in the funeral home business with her father-in-law following the sudden passing of Harley on their 19th wedding anniversary on November 23, 1971. Althea was known as Mom Strong to many and provided a loving home, well-cooked meals, and provided homemade pies for the community. She was an excellent seamstress and quilt maker. She crocheted, gardened, canned, used the computer to email family and was an avid sports fan. She was baptized, married and was a member of the Federated Church in Pomeroy, now known as Trinity. Althea is survived by her children, William Strong (Cathie) of Jackson, Donley Strong of Worthington and Diane Strong-Treister of Charleston, WV; grandchildren, Jessica Strong (Robert Sayre), Jennica Lambert (Steve), Logan Strong, Zachary Treister, Adam Treister, Carly Treister and Tiffany Burtrand (Jay); nieces, Donna Shato (Jim) and Fae Craig; as well as 5 great-grandchildren. Althea also was "Mom" to two German girls, Ingrid Misch and Claudia McDonald who was Diane's pen pal since 6 th grade and considered family. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harley E. Strong; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph E. and Jewell B. Strong; son-in-law, Loren A. Treister; sisters, Mary Elizabeth and Winnie Winifred; brother, Walter Donley; and sister-in-law, Betty. Calling hours will be Sunday, October 31st from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. at Salem Center Cemetery with Reverend Ann Moody officiating. A huge thank you to the staff of Jenkins Assisted Living who were so loving, nurturing and caring for Mom. Those attending the service are asked to meet at the cemetery.
