Bob
Matteson
December 28, 1940 – June 25, 2025
Robert Wayne "Bob" Matteson, age 84, of Hamden, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. He was born December 28, 1940 at home in Hamden, Ohio, son of the late Leland James Matteson, Jr. and Marjorie Rebecca Harris Matteson Fields. Bob was a veteran of the United States Army from where he retired after proudly serving his country for 21 years from 1959 to 1980. During that time, he served in the Vietnam War. Once retired, Bob was a self-employed contractor, auto mechanic, and construction worker. He also helped his aunt, Betty Matteson, take care of the Matteson farm with bailing hay and taking care of the cattle. There wasn't much that Bob couldn't do or fix; he was a Jack of all trades. As a child, he loved to do puzzles, raise rabbits, and go fishing and squirrel hunting, all of which stuck with him as an adult. He also loved to play pool, eat chocolate, and listen to classic country music. Chocolate and banana milkshakes were his two favorite foods. Bob was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 5299 in McArthur. He is survived by his daughters, Gail Anne Matteson of McArthur, Tamara Kaye Matteson of Hamden, and Glenevea Rebecca "Becky" Reed (Tom) of Hamden; grandchildren, Keith Patrick Matteson (Stephanie), whom Bob raised as a son, Christopher Glendon Matteson, Kyle William Matteson, John Wayne Nelson, Katie Marie Nelson, Isabella Grace Reed, and Paisley Madison Reed; brothers, Jack Matteson and Steve Matteson, both of Wellston; sisters, Lynn Craig of Wellston and Kathy Weller (Terry) of Missouri, along with 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Besides his parents, Bob was preceded in death by son, Randall Matteson; former wife and special friend, Kathryn Yvonne Matteson; grandson, Dalton Blackstock; and brothers, Henry, Dave, Sam, and Tommy Matteson. Graveside service, with military honors, will be Saturday, June 28th, at 12 p.m. at the Hamden Cemetery with Pastor Tim Jones officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com.
