May 18, 1946 – October 25, 2025
Lonnie "Butch" Anderson, age 79, of Coalton, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the V.A. Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio. He was born May 18, 1946 in Dayton, Ohio, son of the late Patrick F. Anderson, Sr. and Marjorie Hutmier Anderson. Butch was a 1966 graduate of Wellston High School and a 1989 graduate of the Gallia County Police Academy. He was a veteran of the United States Army who served during the Vietnam War. Butch retired in 2008 from Meridian, formerly Goodyear Tire and Rubber, where he was employed for 36 years. He also retired from the Village of Coalton, where he was the village Chief of Police for approximately 25 years. Butch was a very caring and loving person who always wanted to make people laugh or smile. He was known to many for handing out thousands of angel coins over the years to not only friends and acquaintances, but also complete strangers. Butch was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding his motorcycle and helping others. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Coalton, the AmVets, and the Red Knights Motorcycle Club. Butch is survived by his children, Cathy Tiffany (Gary) of Columbus, Jenny Jones (Joey) of Jackson, Tasha Grimes (Dakota) of Montana, and Cody Anderson (Keli) of Montana; grandchildren, Autumn Selby, Daryn Jones, Shelby Reeves, Raylyn Grimes, Paden Grimes, Hardin Grimes, Lakiah Anderson, Avelynn Anderson, Mason Anderson, Oaken Anderson, Tucker Anderson, and Aidan Walker; great-granddaughter, Lilly Yelic; sister-in-law, Sherry Anderson of Pennsylvania; along with nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends, including special friends, Jim Fain and Sue Pittenger. Besides his parents, Butch was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Anderson; brothers, Bud Weston, Ronnie Lee Anderson, and Patrick "Sonny" Anderson; and sisters, Mabel Weston and Dee Ellars. Calling hours will be Tuesday, October 28, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be Wednesday, October 29, at 11 a.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Andy Rawlins officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
