Carol Lynn McKnight

Carol L. McKnight, age 78, of Wellston, passed away Monday, August 10, 2026 at the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe. She was born November 28, 1947 in Wellston, Ohio to the late Karl Vaughn Sprague and Norma Jean Gill Sprague. Carol was a 1965 graduate of Wellston High School. She served as a secretary with Waldron Lumber Company for 20 years and later provided cleaning services in Jackson, Vinton and Ross counties for an additional 20 years. In years past, Carol enjoyed bowling, shopping and playing on the church volleyball team. But the true driving force throughout her lifetime was found in her strong Christian faith and her love of family, especially the grandkids. Carol’s life centered around the church and her family. She was a member of Trinity Chapel CCCU in Jackson and former member of Wellston Church of the Nazarene and Trinity UMC in Wellston. With a passion for youth, Carol spent decades sharing her love of the Lord with children and youth in Sunday school class and youth meetings. She is survived by her husband of 60 years Charles “Larry” McKnight; sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Shannon McKnight and Chad and Kelly McKnight; eight grandchildren, Ryan McKnight, Evan McKnight, Stacey Burnett (Alex), Elijah McKnight, Zachary McKnight, Wesley McKnight (Amorette), Tori Nibert (Jordon) and Jacob McKnight (Sarah); one great-granddaughter, Charlotte McKnight; siblings, Larry Sprague and Gary Sprague; special niece, Dana Waldron Eberts; as well as several nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws and friends. In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her son, Matthew Vaughn McKnight; brothers, Mike Sprague and Tim Sprague; brother in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Nancy Waldron and mother in-law and father-in-law, Charles and Bertha McKnight. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 14, from 4:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 15 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Chapel CCCU in Jackson with Pastor Jon Hensler officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgewood Cemetery.
