Obituary

Cecil W. Reid, age 86, of McArthur, passed away Monday, January 12, 2026.  He was born June 29, 1939, in South Bloomingville, Ohio to the late Walter Cecil Reid and Virginia Monroe Reid.  Cecil retired from the Vinton County Highway Department where he worked as a loader operator.  In later years, he worked for Hopewell Health Center as a driver.  Cecil loved to sing, play his guitar, and listen to gospel music.  He was a life member of the VFW Post 5299 Auxiliary in McArthur and attended the Allensville Church of Christ in Christian Union.  Cecil is survived by his wife of 8 years, Erma Sater Smith; daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Bradley Palmer and Peggy and Mike Bishop; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Zera Reid; step-children, Vickie Crabtree (Greg) and Greg Smith (Sandra); brothers, Carl Reid and Harry Reid; sister-in-law, Betty Reid, along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Sylvia L. Richards Reid on January 30, 2017; daughter, Regina McClure; son Thad Reid; sister, Martha Smith; and brothers, Charles, Larry and Donald Reid.  The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice of Jackson for the excellent care of their father.  Calling hours will be Sunday, January 18, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  Funeral service will be Monday, January 19, at 10 a.m. at the Allensville Church of Christ in Christian Union with Pastor Delbert Allison and Pastor Barry Benson officiating.  Burial will follow in the Mt.
