Charles Thomas "Charlie" Townsend, age 70, of Jeffersonville, and a former resident of Wellston, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2020, at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio.  He was born September 13, 1949 in Columbus, Ohio, son of the late Charles Edward Townsend and Betty J. Matthews Townsend Ghearing.  Charlie was a 1967 graduate of Wellston High School.  He was a former bartender at the American Legion, V.F.W. and several local bars in Wellston.  Charlie always had a story to tell and could always make people laugh.  He enjoyed fishing, golfing and watching all sports, and was especially a big fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns.  Charlie was a member of the V.F.W. Post 9092 and a former member of the Eagles Lodge.  He is survived by his children, Tiffany Christoph of Jeffersonville and Brian Townsend of West Allis, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Justin, Andrea and Kelsey Townsend and Jacynda Patton; sister, Cindy Townsend of West Virginia; as well as several nieces and nephews.  Besides his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his step-father, Paul Ghearing; sister, Sally Miller; and niece, Michelle Miller.  In keeping with Charlie's wishes, his body was cremated.  A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Charlie's memory can be given to ASPCA, Attn: Linda Tiramani, 520 Eighth Ave. Fl. 7, New York, New York 10018-4195 or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.  Arrangements are under the direction of the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com.
