Richard A. "Dick" Karns, age 81, of Creola, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2022, at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio.  He was born October 5, 1940 in Nelsonville, Ohio, son of the late Charles Phillip "Bea" Karns and Ona Imboden Karns.  Dick graduated from McArthur High School with the class of 1958.  He was a coal miner for several years with Benedict Inc. and later Waterloo Coal Company.  Dick was a former Vinton County Fair board member, as well as a 4-H advisor, both for approximately 50 years.  He was a member of the Cornelius Chapel in Creola.  Dick is survived by his daughters, Anna Scarberry (Russell) of Creola and Kayla Peck (Ryan) of Wellston; sister, Ronna Karns of Creola; grandchildren, Matthew Barger (Elizabeth), James Scarberry, Brittany Scarberry, Paytin Peck and Haydon Peck; along with 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Karns; son, Steve Karns; daughter, Regina Barger; and sister, Sue Stafford.  Calling hours will be Wednesday, April 6, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cornelius Chapel in Creola.  Private family graveside service will follow in the Creola Cemetery with Reverend Jerry Griffith, Jr. officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com.
