Donald V. "Donnie" Betts, age 85, of McArthur, passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2025, surrounded by his family.  He was born January 9, 1940 in McArthur, Ohio, son of the late Dorsa Betts and Helen M. Stringfellow Betts.  Donnie worked in the logging business for over 40 years and retired from Crownover Lumber in McArthur, where he was employed for over 30 years. He loved sports, during his high school years, Donnie played basketball for the Allensville Bombers.  He also had the opportunity to play baseball with the Cincinnati farm team. Donnie was a horse trainer at Crown Time Stables, some of the horses he trained won and held records at Scioto Downs in Columbus. He was also a diehard fan of the Cleveland Browns. Donnie loved to be outdoors, he enjoyed mowing and working in the yard. He was Jackson Township Trustee for 16 years and attended Rt. 327 church in Ray.  He was a Deacon at the Walnut Grove Church and was a very hardworking, well-respected man in Vinton County. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Lynn Alban, Kathryn and Gregory Kenney, and Sherry and Jerry Thompson; along with 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.  Besides his parents, Donnie was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jane Burt Betts; brother, Franklin Betts; sisters Gladys Schroeder, Marie Mossberg, and Charlene McMillin. Calling hours will be Sunday, September 14, from 1 p.m. to 3p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  Funeral service will follow the calling hours at 3 p.m. with Pastor Brian Carpenter officiating.  Burial will be in the Bell Cemetery.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com.
