Donald E. “Donnie” Stevens, age 73, of Wellston, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2026, at The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. He was born at home in Milton Township on March 24, 1953 to the late Robert F. Stevens and Ida K. Miller Stevens. Donnie graduated from Wellston High School with the class of 1971. He retired after 24 years of employment with the Chillicothe Correctional Institution. Donnie was in one of the first EMT classes offered in Jackson County and was hired as a full-time EMT at Jackson before the EMS station even opened. Following his retirement from the Chillicothe Correctional Institution, Donnie worked as a court appointed process server for multiple courts for many years before retiring for health reasons in 2022. Family was very important to Donnie. He loved spending time with them and entertaining the grandchildren. In his spare time, Donnie enjoyed coon hunting, going fishing, and he always looked forward to beach vacations. Donnie was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 9092 and the American Legion Post 371, both in Wellston. He is survived by his wife of almost 51 years, Kristy Hougland Stevens, whom he married on July 5, 1975; sons and daughters-in-law, Adam and Sara Stevens and Morgan and Jessica Stevens; grandchildren, Kennedi, Harper, Zac and Clayton; brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Judy Stevens, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rev. Ed Stevens and Mae Stevens and Morgan Miller and Goldie Miller. Calling hours will be Friday, June 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will follow the calling hours at 1 p.m. with Pastor Tim Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions be given to the funeral home to help with expenses.
