Earl Ronald Compston, age 81, of Wellston, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis. He was born January 8, 1942 in Wellston, Ohio, son of the late James Lantz Compston and Ella Charlotte Wilson Compston. Earl graduated from Wellston High School in 1960 and then went to Bowling Green University on a football scholarship. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and worked for AEP as a lineman for 31 years. Earl loved supporting the local youth athletics and serving his community. He coached 8 ^th and 9 ^th grade football for a time and took care of the basketball court. Earl had a love and appreciation for nature and enjoyed the simple things in life. The things that made him happy and he loved the most were hiking, fishing, looking for arrowheads, his family and home cooked meals. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Linda Craft Compston; children, Shayne (Christy) Compston and Sherry (James) Betschel; stepson, Tony Newman; grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob, Sidney, and Ashley; great-granddaughter, Zayla; brother, Tom Compston; sisters-in-law, Ruth Compson and Karon Compston; along with several nieces, nephews, and special friends, Pat Henry and all the guys at the garage. Besides his parents, Earl was preceded in death by brothers, James, Bill, Bob, Jerry, and Johnny Compston and an infant sister. In keeping with Earl's wishes, cremation followed his passing and private burial will be in the Ridgewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Earl Compston Memorial Scholarship at any Atomic Credit Union location.
