Elwood D. "Woody" Carrington, age 81, of Hamden, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2021, at his home. He was born November 11, 1939 in Ewington, Ohio to the late Lee Carrington and Louise Reed Carrington. Woody was a 1957 graduate of Allensville High School and the Columbus Barber College. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion Post 371 of Wellston, with whom he served on the Honor Guard for several years. Woody had several occupations throughout his life including being a barber in Jackson, Vinton County Deputy Sheriff, substitute school bus driver for both Jackson County and Vinton County schools, traveled around building pole buildings, and retired from the coal mines, where he worked for 23 years. He is survived by his sons, Steve Carrington (Brenda) of Pomeroy and Cary Carrington of Hamden; sister, Genevieve Case of McArthur; nephews, Ronald Case and Donald Case, both of McArthur; along with 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Woody was preceded in death by his step-father, Carl Littlejohn; his first wife, Carolyn Overly Clark, and his second wife, Lendal Sharon Conley Carrington. In keeping with Woody's wishes, his body was cremated. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name can be given to the American Legion Post 371, 1001 South Pennsylvania Avenue, Wellston, Ohio 45692.
