Emily
Mahle
November 2, 1973 – May 13, 2025
With heavy hearts and infinite love, we celebrate the life of Emily Gay Mahle, 51, of Wellston, Ohio, who passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2025, surrounded by the love she so freely gave to everyone around her.
Born on November 2, 1973, in Connersville, Indiana, to Mike and Cheryl McDonald, Emily brought light into the world from the very beginning. Growing up as an "Army brat," she traveled the globe, collecting experiences, cultures, and stories that helped shape her into the incredibly compassionate and understanding woman we all came to know and love. Her life was full of movement, yet her heart was always rooted in love and family.
In 1999, fate brought her together with her soulmate, Joseph Mahle, and their bond became a love story that touched everyone who knew them. They were married in July of 2004, and from that day forward, their life was built on unwavering devotion, laughter, and partnership. Emily was not just a wife, she was Joseph's best friend, his rock, and his greatest gift.
To her children, Emily was everything. The very definition of a devoted, loving, and endlessly selfless mother. She poured her soul into motherhood, offering guidance, unconditional love, and comfort with every hug, every smile, and every word of encouragement. She was their safe place, their biggest cheerleader, and their home.
Emily worked as a cook at Ohio University, where her warmth and kindness extended far beyond the kitchen. Even after her diagnosis of Myasthenia Gravis in 2014, she continued to live with courage, grace, and a giving heart. She never let her illness define her - instead, she used it as a reminder to love even more deeply.
She gave so much of herself to her community as a proud member of the OHillCo Festival Board and a former band booster. If there was a way to help, Emily was there - offering her time, her smile, her strength. She had a way of making everyone feel seen, valued, and loved. Her hugs could heal, and her presence could brighten the darkest of days.
Emily was known for her radiant smile, her boundless heart, and her unshakable kindness. She lived by a simple but powerful belief: Be a good human, even when it's hard; and she did - every single day.
She is now reunited with those who went before her: her beloved brother Roy, her rainbow baby, Michelle, and her cherished grandparents, Marion "Peewee" and Bonnie "Pat" Gardner.
Emily's legacy lives on through her devoted husband of 20 years, Joseph; her treasured children Makayla (Lorie), Alexis (RJ), Gage (Aubry), Gracie (Colin), Christopher, Braidyn, Brittanie (Mike), Ashleigh, and Andrew; her many adored grandchildren; beloved nieces and nephew; and her countless friends and community members whose lives she touched in immeasurable ways.
Emily's love was vast. Her impact, immeasurable. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her - forever cherished, forever missed.
