Evelyn A. Rice, age 84, of Jackson, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at her home. She was born June 19, 1940 in Philadelphia, Pa., daughter of the late Russell Conwell Devlin and Alice L. Verrill Devlin. Evelyn was a graduate of Career Beauty School in Chillicothe and was the owner and operator of the former "A Touch of Class" beauty shop in Wellston. She was also a former employee and assistant manager for several years at Super America in Wellston. In her spare time Evelyn enjoyed fixing hair, playing Bingo, making crafts, and playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Evelyn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wellston where she enjoyed attending church and singing in the church choir. She was also a member of the Wellston Chase Chapter #162 Order of the Eastern Star. Evelyn's funny, loving and caring personality will be remembered by all who knew her. She is survived by her children, Jerry L. Rice, Jr. (Michelle) of Drayden, Maryland, Cheri Rice of Jackson, Robert P. Rice of Jackson, and Suzanne M. Carpenter (Rob) of Suffolk, Virginia; grandchildren, Joshua Rice (Meghan), Tiffany Shaffer (Lindsay), Kristin McClure (Matt), Sean McManus, Nicholas Rice, Kayla Rice (Andrew Lind), Tyler Carpenter, Trey Carpenter, and Joseph Carpenter; great-grandchildren, Tressa, Brooklyn, Harrison, Adaline, Owen, Rylan, Sophie, and Adeline; great-great grandchildren, Beckett and Sekani; brother, Daniel P. Devlin of Drexel Hill, Pa.; sister, Carol Gadsby (Richard) of Warrington, Pa., as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Jerry L. Rice, Sr. in 2014; and her son, Russell David Rice. Calling hours will be Monday, September 16th, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be Tuesday, September 17th at 11 a.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor John Pelletier officiating. Burial will be in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
