Obituary

Gary H. Cundiff, age 82, of Wellston, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe.  He was born July 24, 1940 in Wellston, Ohio, son of the late George L. Cundiff and Irene Riffle Cundiff.  Gary was a 1958 graduate of Wellston High School, where he was on the undefeated 1957 All-Star SEOL Championship football team.  He was a former employee at Glick Furniture and Westinghouse in Columbus.  After leaving Columbus, he bought property in Wellston and became a landlord.  Gary continued being a landlord for over 40 years, having begun in the 1970's.  He was a very caring and forgiving person and always helped those in need.  Every Christmas he would give his tenant's children Christmas gifts by rolling dollar bills into gift packages for them.  Gary enjoyed his lattes, television, ice cream bars and taking rides through town.  He loved to tell jokes and make others laugh; he was even making people laugh in the ICU at Adena after his heart attack.  Gary loved his family so much, as well as his cats and dogs.  Sandy says, "more than anything else, he loved to aggravate his wife and get the response, "I'm going to blow my breath in your face."  Then, he would get away and say "Dog breath, dog breath."  We laughed a lot.  We did not fight, but we could disagree on things.  The house is so empty without him."  Gary is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sandra K. Keck Cundiff, whom he married on December 7, 1958; children, Carolyn Millican (Alan), Katharine Waulk, Karen Davis (Bill), Gary David Cundiff, and Mary Forcier; grandchildren, Jason Buckley (Kim), Kameron Milligan (Jessica), Amanda Bragg (Chad), Michelle Manring (Brandon), Zachary Waulk (Sami), Stephanie Ousley (Branch), Billy Davis, Susan Fleming, Cynthia Poore (Rusty), Kiera Murray (Andrew), Kelly Franklin (Arnez), Kathy Dye, Craig Cundiff, Adam Forcier, and Kaitlyn Sheets; along with 25 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, 2 nieces and 1 nephew.  Besides his parents, Gary was preceded in death by siblings, George Cundiff II, Donna McGhee and Sandra Cundiff; grandchildren, Michael Buckley, William Buckley, Gary Keith "Dude" Davis, and Cassie Cundiff; and great-grandchild, Brady Stewart.  Calling hours will be Sunday, March 26th, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  Funeral service will follow the calling hours at 5 p.m. with Pastor Will Gillem officiating.  In keeping with Gary's wishes, cremation will follow the service.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com.
