George Darrell Couch, age 74, of Jackson, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the VA Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio.  He was born August 6, 1950 in Duncan, Oklahoma to the late George Ellis Couch and Ethel Lee Long Couch.  Darrell retired from the Department of Defense where he was employed as a water treatment operator.  He was a veteran of the United States Army and served as a sergeant during the Vietnam War, receiving a Bronze Star Medal.  Darrell loved taking rides and exploring and was always up for a trip and traveling, especially to Myrtle Beach.  He enjoyed sitting on the porch watching people going by as well as watching the birds.  Darrell was a very caring animal lover who took the best of care of his pets and any others that needed loving attention.  He was a member of the D.A.V. Jackson County Chapter 45 and a huge fan of the Apple Festival and all its goodies.  Darrell is survived by his wife, whom he married in Nashville, Tennessee on March 1, 2004, Rita Ann Slater Couch; bonus daughter and son-in-law, Whitney and Patrick Carl; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Lonnie Whitledge; and nephews, Jerry Whitledge (Randy) and Kenneth Whitledge.  The family would like to thank the staff of Freedom Harbor at the VA Medical Center for their love, care, and respect of Darrell.  In keeping with Darrell's wishes, there will be no public services and private family burial will be in the CM Cemetery in Oak Hill.  In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions in Darrell's memory be given to the Jackson County Dog Pound, c/o 25 South Street, Jackson, Ohio 45640.  Arrangements are under the direction of the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com.
