Robert "Greg" Yates, born on February 27, 1949, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2025, at the age of 75. Greg was known for his sense of humor, bringing laughter and joy to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A self-taught engineer, Greg's passion and ingenuity led to a remarkable career. He served as a lead engineer at McNally in Wellston, Ohio, designer at Roberts and Schafer in Monroeville, Pennsylvania and later as a senior proposal engineer at Farnham and Pfile in Monessen, Pennsylvania. His talent and dedication left an enduring legacy in the field, taking him across the world, with his final international job leading him to China.
Greg was a proud graduate of Wellston High School, class of 1967, where he was honored with the title of "Best Personality," a reflection of the warmth and charm he carried throughout his life. He was also a member of the Wellston Rockets Marching Band, where his love for music and camaraderie with his fellow bandmates brought him great joy.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Granville Yates; his mother, Martha Bernice Yates; and his sister, Anita Gail Yates. Greg is survived by his loving niece, Martha Beth Yates-Flinn, and her husband, Robbie Flinn, who cherished their time with him and will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.
Greg's life will be remembered for the joy he brought to others and the impact he made through his work and unwavering sense of humor. His spirit and laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Greg's life on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston with Rev.
