Gwendolyn M. Bail Porter, age 72, of Waverly, formerly of Jackson, passed away Monday, May 18, 2026, at the Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio. She was born February 12, 1954 in Gallipolis, Ohio to the late Mary Jane Bail Wright. Gwen was an educator having received a bachelor’s degree in education from Rio Grande College and a master’s degree in education from Mary Grove College in Michigan. She retired from the Wellston City Schools where she taught first grade for 10 years and second grade for 11 years, both at Bundy Elementary. When not teaching, Gwen loved to be outdoors, whether it be fishing, camping or attending sporting events of all kinds. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gwen is survived by her children, April Vega (Luis) and William “Willie” Porter (Tanya); grandchildren, Matthew Porter, Lexi Porter (Nate Frisby), Zachary Caldwell (Emmi), Emily Caldwell (Sierra Miller), Madi Harley (Evelyn) and Shawna Porter; great-grandchildren, Teagen Porter, Eedie Porter, Fox Porter, Aden Coy and Hudson Frisby; her special brother who meant the world to her, Anthony Wright; best friend, Janet Hill; along with nieces, nephews, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her mother and step-father, Mary Jane and Franklin Delano Wright. Calling hours will be Friday, May 22, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. A Celebration of Life service will follow the calling hours at 4 p.m. In keeping with Gwen’s request, cremation will follow the service and private burial will be at the convenience of the family in Hamden Cemetery.
