Obituary

Henry Elwood Doles, age 98, of Ray, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2024, at his home.  He was born March 7, 1926 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Henry F. Doles and Clara M. Fenneman Doles.  Elwood, as he was known by many, was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during WWII.  Following 30 years of employment, he retired from the VA Hospital in Chillicothe, where he worked as a carpenter.  Elwood was also a former Ohio State Highway Auxiliary Patrolman for 27 years.  He was a member of Tick Ridge Christian Church and the American Legion Post 757 in Chillicothe.  Elwood always enjoyed his tractor, tinkering with his tools, working in his workshop, and attending Rod Runs in Tennessee with family.  As everyone knows, Elwood was always eager to entertain others with his card tricks.  He is survived by his children, Linda Kay Frazier (Richard), Dorothy Anne Harper (Gerald), and Robert "Bob" Doles (Julie), all of Ray; grandchildren, Mary Ellen Daniel, Kelly Jo Seymour (Jimmy), Deborah Dexter (Thomas), Gerald Harper (Tischa), Elizabeth Hurst (Josh), and Robert Doles II;  as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, including special nephew who was raised in the home, Keith Doles (Myra) of Buckeye Lake.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary Anne Farabee Doles in 2015; grandson, Wayne Eric Rutter; and several brothers and sisters.  Calling hours will be Friday, January 3, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  Funeral service will be Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Rev. Jim McFadden officiating.  Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Ray.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com.
