Helen "Irene" Thompson, age 88, of Wellston, passed away Friday morning, July 2, 2021, at Edgewood Manor in Wellston.  She was born July 4, 1932 in Wellston, Ohio, daughter of the late Cornelius William Coyle and Jessie E. Collins Coyle.  Irene was a 1950 graduate of Wellston High School.  She was a former telephone operator for General Telephone Company in Wellston, and later retired from Hope Haven School, where she was a bus driver for over 30 years.  Irene always enjoyed taking car rides, going out to eat, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  She is survived by son, Mark Thompson of Wellston; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Doug Martin of Hilliard; and grandchildren, Scott Martin of Columbus, Jon Martin of Hilliard and Caroline Martin of Hilliard; along with several nieces and nephews.  Besides her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Scott E. Thompson October 26 2020; and siblings, Marjorie Walton, Mary Cheatwood, Esther Emmet, Jane Smith, Wilma Dixon, William Coyle and Martha Bussman.  Calling hours will be Monday, July 5, 2021, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  Funeral service will follow the calling hours at 1 p.m. with Pastor Dave Kelly officiating.  Burial will be in the Ridgewood Cemetery.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com.
