J.D. Martin, age 89, of Wellston, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at his home.  He was born July 18, 1934 in Wellston, Ohio, the son of the late Glenn Martin and Charlotte Kelley Martin.  J.D. was a 1953 graduate of Wellston High School and attended Heidelberg College and the University of Toledo.  Following 31 years of employment, J.D. retired from Columbia Gas where he was employed as a serviceman.  J.D. was a former Wellston City councilman for several years.  He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Fairgreens Country Club and Wellston Hope Church.  In years past, J.D. was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling and watching The Ohio State Buckeyes.  He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Donna Salts Martin; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Rob Davis of Wellston; son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Lisa Martin of Hilliard; grandchildren, Todd Kisor (Jenna), Scott Martin, Jordan Oberling (Gage), Jon Martin, and Caroline Martin; sister, Elinor Sheldon of Sunnyville, California, as well as several nieces and nephews.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, who raised him, Ernest and Florence Kelley.  J.D. requested that cremation follow his passing.  A public graveside service will be held Saturday, March 2nd, at 12 p.m. at Ridgewood Cemetery with Pastor John Pelletier officiating.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in J.D.'s memory be given to the Wellston High School Golf Team, c/o Wellston City Schools, 1 East Broadway, Wellston, Ohio 45692.  Arrangements are under the direction of the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com.
