Joan
Mahley
August 28, 1948 – May 8, 2023
Joan Elaine Mahley, age 74, of Jackson, passed away Monday, May 8, 2023, at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio. She was born August 28, 1948 in Harrison Township, Scioto County, Ohio, daughter of the late Roland Albert Diller and Lillian Gertrude Wright Diller. Joan graduated from Minford High School with the class of 1966. Following over 30 years of employment, Joan retired from Kroger in Wellston, where the customers were always greeted by her sweet, delightful, and caring personality. Joan faithfully attended Hope United Methodist Church in Wellston, where she developed deep friendships and in return was well-loved. She enjoyed going discount shopping, playing cards and Scrabble, and participating in the Wellston Rotary variety show. More than anything, Joan looked forward to spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her daughters, Marcia Shumate (Mitchell) of Jackson and Melanie Purtee (Steve Green) of Portsmouth; grandchildren, Storm France (Kimberly), Ashton Hall (Nate), Natalie Fowler, Emily Shumate, Andrew Shumate, Mary Grace Shumate and Olivia Shumate; great-grandchildren, Caroline and Elliott; siblings, Nancy Donahue, Vickie McGinnis (Butch) and Jim Diller; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and special close friends. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Terry E. Mahley in 2004; and sisters, Wanda Lewis, Janet Hickson, and Norma Smith. Calling hours will be Friday, May 12th, from 12 to 2 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will follow the calling hours at 2 p.m. with Pastor Rod Brower officiating. Burial will be in the Ridgewood Cemetery. It was Joan's request that in lieu of flowers, please purchase or donate a coat or pair of shoes for a child in need.
