Obituary

John O. Bishop, Jr., age 65, of Wellston, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, March 13, 2025, at his home.  He was born October 22, 1959 in Wellston, Ohio, son of the late John O. Bishop, Sr. and Edith L. Whetstone Bishop.  John was a 1977 graduate of Wellston High School where he was a proud member of the Wellston Golden Rocket football team.  Known by the handle "Bandit", he was a former front-end loader for both Sands Hill Coal Co. and Waterloo Coal Co.  John loved God and attending Zion #3 Church in Wellston.  His strong Christian faith was evident in his everyday life.  John had the best sense of humor and was always in a good mood.  He always made everyone smile and made so many of his family and friends happy.  John was also the best storyteller, never leaving out any details.  He was an avid sports fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and a dedicated supporter of the Wellston Golden Rockets.  John is survived by his daughter, Kristen Yoest (Kevin) of Chillicothe; sisters, Naomi McCarter of Wellston and Anita Holtz of Flat Rock, Michigan; niece and nephews, Kevin Tedrow, Mandy Jones, Josh McCarter, and Nathan McCarter; great-nephews, Blake, Sean, Tyler, and Josh, Jr.; close friend, Teresa Barker, as well as several close cousins and friends.  Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his niece, Heather Holtz.  Calling hours will be Tuesday, March 18th, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  Funeral service will follow the calling hours at 1 p.m. with Pastor Josh Landrum and Timmy Stanley officiating.
