John Michael Jackson, age 76, of Wellston, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2024 at the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio. He was born April 21, 1947 in Athens, Ohio, son of the late James M. Jackson and Irene Riggs Jackson. John was a 1965 graduate of Wilton High School in Wilkesville, and later received a Bachelor of Science degree in police science from Youngstown State University. He was the former owner and operator of Jackson Pallet in Wilkesville for over 30 years. John enjoyed watching sports, especially any sports his sons and grandsons participated in. He was a volleyball official for 25 years and was inducted into the Volleyball Officials Association Hall of Fame. For 17 years, John was the volunteer chairman of fundraising for the annual local Boy Scout Troup #57's spaghetti dinner and auction, for which he received an award for his service to the scouts. He was also the Recreation Director for the city of Wellston for 6 years. John was of the Catholic faith and a member of the St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Zaleski. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Suzanne "Sue" Dyer Jackson; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Mindy Jackson of Wellston, Joseph and Elizabeth Jackson of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and Jeffrey and Elizabeth Jackson of Irvine, Kentucky; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Jeanne Norris of Canada; as well as 6 grandchildren. Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Billy Norris. Calling hours will be Thursday, February 22nd, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston, where a rosary service will begin at 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, February 23rd, at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Wellston with Father Thomas Dyer officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Jackson. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions in John's memory be given to one of the following: Athletic Department of Wellston High School, checks payable to WCS Athletic Department, 1 East Broadway Wellston, Ohio 45692 or Golden Rocket Athletic Boosters Club, memo: "youth football", c/o 87 Lake Alma Road, Wellston, Ohio 45692, or deposit at any People's Bank location.
