Obituary

Johnnie Cook, age 77, of Wellston, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at his home.  He was born July 10, 1948 in Sandlick, Kentucky to the late Marion Cook and Nannie Adams Cook.  Johnnie, a member of the United Mine Workers Union, was a coal miner for 22 years before retiring from Mills Pride.  He was an avid Pittsburg Steelers fan and enjoyed bow hunting and fishing, especially bass fishing, having won many tournaments over the years.  Most of all, Johnnie loved time spent with family.  He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Denica A. Means Cook; his son, Shade "Doug" Cook (Melanie Valentine); granddaughters Kristen Cook and Lacy Cook; greatgrandchildren, Kaylee, John Wayne, Emma Rose, Connor, Scottie Jane, Braxton, Kinzlee and Sadie Grace; siblings, Roy Cook and Linda Climer, along with several nieces, nephews and friends.  In addition to his parents, Johnnie was preceded in death by his sister, Emma Jean Reed.  Calling hours will be Sunday, March 1, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  Funeral service will be Monday, March 2, at 1:00 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral home with Pastor Robert Fulton officiating.  Burial will follow in Ridgewood Cemetery.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com.
