July 14, 1930 – March 23, 2023
Lowell Settles, age 92, of Circleville, and a former resident of Wellston, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023, at his home. He was born July 14, 1930 in Circleville, Ohio, son of the late William Neal Settles and Gladys Hatfield Settles. Lowell retired as a Master Gunnery Sergeant from the United States Marine Corps with 20 years service. During that time, he served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Lowell also retired from the United States Postal service, having been a mail carrier for Wellston for 23 years. Following retirement, he enjoyed golfing almost every day, as well as "going to the boat" and playing Bingo. Lowell is survived by his wife of 33 years, Betty K. Massie Settles; children, Pam Markham (Tolby) of Wellston, Dan Settles (Cindy) of Austin, Texas, and Lowell Wayne Settles (Brenda) of Tampa, Florida; step-daughter, Cheryl Finley of Mt. Sterling, Ohio; grandchildren, Tolby Neal Markham, Eric Markham and Tim Settles; brother, Delbert Settles (Peggy) of Carter Lake, Iowa; along with 3 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria Settles in 1989; step-son-in-law, Charlie Finley; 1 brother and 3 sisters. In keeping with Lowell's wishes, there will be no public services. A private graveside service, with military honors, will be held Tuesday, March 28th, with Pastor Tim Jones officiating.
