Obituary

Luann C. Stewart, age 87, of Wellston, passed away Friday, March 24, 2023, at her home.  She was born January 3, 1936 in Chelyan, West Virginia, daughter of the late Guy Stuart Campbell, Sr. and Grace Wilcoxon Campbell.  Luann was a graduate of Jackson High School and received her teaching certificate from Rio Grande College.  She retired from Jackson City Schools, where she was a teacher for 36 years.  In 1949, Luann had the honor of being named the last Miss Jackson County Queen, now known as the Jackson County Apple Festival Queen.  In years past, Luann was a tap dancer, and enjoyed the fine arts, especially paint and sculptures.  She also loved traveling, gardening, sewing, and listening to and supporting the Wellston High School band and football team.  In more recent years, Luann enjoyed attending and watching her grandchildren play youth sports, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune on T.V., cheering alongside her husband for The Ohio State Buckeyes, taking rides around Lake Alma and boating.  Luann had a heart of gold, was a regular contributor to several special causes, and was always for the underdog.  She was a member of Grace Baptist Fellowship in Wellston, Jackson County Retired Teachers Association, and the State Retired Teachers Association.  Luann loved her family very much, which includes her husband of 72 years, Walter E. Stewart; children, Paul Stewart (Roxanne) of Wellston, Sherry Headley (Dennis) of Jefferson City, Tennessee, Terry Stewart of Wellston and Jack Stewart (Teresa) of Wellston; grandchildren, Fred Stewart, Vaneesa Stewart (Leo Fuentes), Jessica Newkirk (Clint), Troy Stewart (Ashley), Kyle Stewart, Chris Headley (Kristel), Brett Stewart (Felicia), Linsay Stewart (Bradley Bell), Matt Stewart, Brittany Stewart (Tyler Feddersen), and Josh Stewart (Danielle); sister-in-law, Nancy Collier (Paul) of Heath, Ohio; along with several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Guy "Skip" Campbell, Jr., Jack Campbell, Edwin Campbell, Dorus Campbell and Lela Campbell; and great-grandson, Brady Stewart.  Calling hours will be Tuesday, March 28th, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  Funeral service will be Wednesday, March 29th, at 11 a.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Jones and Pastor Chris Headley officiating.  Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Memory Gardens in Coalton.  For those who wish, memorial contributions in Luann's name can be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or Wounded Warriors Project, P.O.
