Martha L. "Marty" Helmick, age 68, of Ray, passed away Friday, February 18, 2022, at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio.  She was born June 15, 1953 in Gallipolis, Ohio, daughter of the late Rev. George W. Sexton and Nellie L. Thomas Sexton.  Martha was an avid hunter, as well as a 3-time national powerlifting champion and she earned a brown belt in karate.  She is survived by her children, Jimmy Sparks (Heidi) of Ray and Dona Sparks of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Jay Sparks (Justin), Megan Bartoe (Josh), Ryan Clemons, Hunter Clemons, Timothy Hamblin (Amanda), Job Fields and Mariah McNichols; 8 great-grandchildren; and sister, Carolyn Vickers (Bob) of Wellston.  In keeping with Martha's request, her body was cremated. A graveside memorial service will be Saturday, June 18th at 11 a.m. at Log Pile Cemetery with Carmen Cline officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com.
