Mary Betts

  Mary Amanda Betts, age 52, of Vinton, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2026, at The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. She was born January 11, 1974 in Athens, Ohio to Carl Allen Smith, Sr. and Mary Maxine Perry Smith. Mary graduated from Vinton County High School with the class of 1992. She went on to receive a nursing degree from Buckeye Hills School of Nursing. Mary was an LPN who took pride in taking care of others. She loved being outside enjoying her surroundings, taking vacations to Tennessee, reading a good book, and the good taste of a Diet Coke. Mary is survived by her mother, Maxine Smith; daughter, Skylar Betts (Joe Swaim); grandchildren, Maverick and Maddyn; brother, Carl Allen “Bub” Smith, Jr. (Bobbie Jo); special friend, Larry Davis, along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Smith, Sr. and her special aunt, Jakie Betts. In keeping with Mary’s request, cremation followed her passing. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, November 7, at 1 p.m. at the Vinton County Fairgrounds in McArthur. Arrangements are under the direction of the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.
