Maurice Lee "Buddy" Helmic, age 70, of Wellston, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at his home.  He was born April 24, 1951 in Charleston, WV, son of the late Robert and Freda V. Helmic.  Buddy was a diehard veteran of the United States Marine Corps who served during the Vietnam War.  Following 25 years of employment, he retired from Sands Hill Coal Company.  Buddy loved being outdoors working in the yard, and he always enjoyed going bow hunting and fishing.  He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Karen M. Huffman Helmic; sons, Kevin Lee Helmic (Angie) and J.R. Helmic (Nikki); grandchildren, Hunter Lee, Gaven Lee, Alyssa, Chloe and Jensen; along with his little buddy, Charlie.  In keeping with Buddy's wishes, his body was cremated.  Arrangements are under the direction of the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com.
