Melvin Ray Libby

Melvin Ray Libby, age 91, of Hamden, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2026 at his home. He was born January 5, 1935 to the late Ernest Libby and Vivian Wykle Libby in Jackson County, Ohio. A 1953 graduate of Wellston High School, Melvin later joined the U.S. Army and proudly served as a truck driver while stationed in South Korea near the demilitarized zone. He retired as a machine operator from the Carborundum Grinding Wheel Company in Logan, Ohio after many years of service. Melvin attended the Hamden United Methodist Church where he married his wife of 68 years, Martha Jane Barron Libby, in 1958. Whether it was at Carborundum or working on the farm, particularly Weber Farms, he was a hard worker all his life. In addition to his wife, Melvin is survived by his son, Steve Libby; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Eric Weber; grandchildren, Madison Weber and Chelsea and Thomas Rogers; precious great-grandchildren, Ansley and Aden Rogers; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Kay Libby; sisters-in-law, Betty Libby and Bonnie Libby; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth Libby and Tom Libby. Calling hours will be Wednesday, September 9, from 12:00 noon till 2:00 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.
