G. Michael McManis, age 75, of Wellston, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, from his home. He was born December 12, 1947 in Jackson County, Ohio, son of the late William L. "Lee" McManis and Edna I. Malone McManis. Mike was a 1966 graduate of Wellston High School. He later received an associate degree in fine woodworking from the University of Rio Grande and was an outstanding fine furniture wood maker. Along with woodworking, another favorite pastime of Mike's was reading. He was a former employee of L&M Construction Company and a former draftsman with McNally Pittsburg Manufacturing. He retired from Southern Ohio Coal Company and was a proud member of UMWA Local Union #1857. Mike was a veteran of the Army National Guard and a member of the First Baptist Church in Wellston, Black Diamond Lodge #538 F&AM, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, Aladdin Shrine Club, past Worthy Patron of OES Chase Chapter #162, past President of Shiloh Shrine Club, and the American Legion Post #371. Mike is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, Jane C. Jones McManis; son and daughter-in-law, Michael Lee and Tammy McManis; grandchildren, Morgan and Colt McManis; brother-in-law, Gary Dutey; sisters-in-law, Joyce Figlestahler, Sharon Jones, and Nancy Jones; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Cathi Murphy, Gail Dutey, and Jerry McManis. Calling hours will be Friday, October 27th, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Masonic service by Black Diamond Lodge #538 will begin at 12:45 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. with Pastor Nate DeRochie officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Ridgewood Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church, 106 South Pennsylvania Avenue, Wellston, Ohio 45692.
