Mike Wood

  Michael E. “Mike” Wood, age 79, of Jackson, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2026, at his home. He was born December 26, 1947 in Cleveland, Ohio, son of the late Adam Emerson Wood and Elnora Gallion Wood. Mike graduated from Jackson High School with the class of 1965. He served his country during the Vietnam War as a member of the United States Army. Mike later received a Bachelor of Education degree from Rio Grande College in 1975 and went on to receive a Master of Education degree from the University of Dayton. Mike was a former educator for 25 years with the Wellston City School District. His teaching career began with reading and science at the elementary level and concluded as the sophomore English teacher at Wellston High School. While teaching, sports were a big part of Mike’s life. He was the former Athletic Director at Wellston High School and will be remembered for coaching football, basketball and tennis. Mike had a passion for golfing and could be found on the golf course whenever possible. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda Lyons Wood; son, Joseph “Joe” Wood; brothers, Mark Wood and Bryan Wood (Vicki); sister-in-law, Mary Ann Wood, along with 1 niece and 4 nephews. Besides his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his brother, Phillip Wood. In keeping with Mike’s request, cremation followed his passing. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
