November 7, 1944 – April 5, 2026
Molly Shepherd Vanover, age 81, of McArthur, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2026, at Select Specialty Hospital in Newark, Ohio. She was born November 7, 1944 in Knott County, Kentucky, daughter of the late David Kilce Shepherd and Nancy Eveline Ritchie Shepherd. Molly was a caregiver at heart and loved helping others. She was a former STNA and supervisor of housekeeping at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe. Molly loved her flowers, gardening, and was known to be an excellent baker, having made several birthday cakes and wedding cakes in the area. Family was very important to Molly, and she treasured the time spent with them, especially the grandchildren. Molly was a member of Putnam Chapel Church and a volunteer at the food pantry. She also formerly served on the Pike County Board of Elections. Molly is survived by her children, Patty Day (Herb), Harold Montgomery, Jr., and Kimberly Montgomery (Mathew Walls); daughter-in-law, Patricia Montgomery; grandchildren, Aaron Davis, Corey Allen, Anthony Gillingham, Jr., Tawnie Gillingham, Jason Montgomery, Dwayne Montgomery, Amy Swepston, and Karly Darling; sister, Lillie May Bowling, along with several nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren, including great-granddaughter, Aubrielle Bailey, who held a special place in Molly's heart. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Edward Vanover in 2023; son, Michael Montgomery; grandson, Charles Asberry Day; great-granddaughter, Paisley Gillingham; and siblings, Victoria Mahaffey, Elizabeth Combs, Bill Shepherd, Susie Slone, Polly Mae Ritchie, Frances Jane Combs, Daniel Shepherd, and Donald Shepherd. Calling hours will be Sunday, April 12, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will follow the calling hours at 2 p.m. with Molly's son-in-law, Herb Day, officiating. Burial will be in the Elk Cemetery.
