Obituary

Rex Franklin Littlejohn, age 88, of Wellston, passed away Saturday morning, January 25, 2020, at the Jenkins Care Community in Wellston, Ohio.  He was born January 4, 1932 in Wellston, Ohio to the late Harry and Frances Leach Littlejohn.  Rex was a proud veteran of the United States Army who served as a train engineer during the Korean War.  A Jack of all trades, Rex had many jobs and professions throughout his life, including B&O Railroad, Littlejohn's Heating and Cooling, Littlejohn's Real Estate, Slug's Tire Shop, Southend Used Furniture, and Littlejohn's Backhoe Service, to name a few.  He also served as a Jackson County Commissioner in the 1970's and was one of the main organizers of Wellston's Centennial celebration in 1976.  In his later years, Rex enjoyed continuing to buy and sell real estate, refurbishing tractors, appliances and mowers, and spending time with his family. Rex was baptized in, and a member of the Community Church of Christ.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 371 of Wellston and an active member of the Democratic party.  Rex is survived by daughters, Lila Thacker (Rick) of Wellston and Teresa Justice of Wellston; grandchildren, Jessica Littlejohn Haynes (Chris), Jimmy Littlejohn (Makayla), Emily Littlejohn (Josh Frisby), Mandy Ousley (Burt Leach), Alisha Adkins (Davey), Matthew DuRae, Eric DuRae and Natalie Justice; siblings, Harriet Cummings, Paul Littlejohn, Jerry Littlejohn, and Leon Littlejohn; along with several great-grandchildren, great-great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Littlejohn; and sisters, Maxine Littlejohn, Katherine Wildman, Donna Shook, and Dorothy Lambert.  Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 6 P.M. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  Funeral service, with military honors, will follow the calling hours at 6 P.M. with Rex's nephew and niece, Jimmy Cummings, Jr. and Susie Cummings Schneider officiating.  Cremation will follow the service and burial will be in the Ridgewood Cemetery.  For those who wish, memorial contributions in Rex's name can be given to the Jackson County Dog Pound, c/o 275 Portsmouth Street, Jackson, Ohio 45640.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com.
