Richard A. "Red" Davis, age 91, of Wellston, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at Edgewood Manor in Wellston. He was born April 11, 1932 in Huntington, West Virginia, son of the late Blackmoore Davis and Eva Jane Coleman Davis Denney. Richard graduated from Bloomfield High School, where he was the valedictorian of the class of 1950. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. Richard retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a former mail carrier and clerk for the post office in Jackson. He was always busy working or tinkering on something and enjoyed doing home improvement projects. Richard was an avid reader and always encouraged his family to read. He is survived by his children, Daniel Duane Davis (Elizabeth) of Grove City, Patricia Joyce Belcher (Greg) of Hamden, and Nancy Ellen Hartley (Mike) of Wellston; grandchildren, Gregory Kyle Belcher, Alyssa Michelle Smith (Ed), Kristyn Elise Belcher, David Thomas Lorge (Naomi), Thomas Coleman "Cole" Hartley, and Marissa Paige Hartley; great-grandson, Isaac Christopher Lorge; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Besides his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, 3 months and 9 days, Movita Sue Davis in 2021; step-father, Fred Denney; brothers, Vincent Davis and Darrell Davis; and several step-brothers and a step-sister. Calling hours will be Friday, August 4th, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor John Pelletier officiating.
