Rocky Russell, age 62, of Wellston, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025, at the Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio. He was born May 11, 1962 in Denver, Colorado to Duke and Irene Russell. Rocky was a 1981 graduate of Wellston High School. He enjoyed fishing, camping and hiking, working on cars, and spending time with his friends, which included riding around with his best friend, Larry Kruskamp. Rocky also spent a lot of time with his brother and best friend, Matt McCarthy. He was fond of spending time at the VFW in Wellston and was known by many as "The Leprechaun". Every morning, Rocky could be found sitting on the porch enjoying a cup of coffee with his sister, Joyce. Rocky is survived by his mother, Irene Luster Russell; sisters, Joyce Jenkins McCarthy (Matt), and Gretchen Carter; daughters, Reba Nicholson (Jeremiah), and Mallory Russell; grandchildren, Logan and Henry Troiano, and Alayna Nicholson; niece, Crissy Fraley (Rob Benham); nephews, Matthew McCarthy (Michelle), and Paul McCarthy; great-nieces and great-nephews, Lucy and Domonic Holsinger, and Marty, Paula, Hunter, Jordon, and Harley McCarthy; best friend Larry Kruskamp, along with several aunts and cousins too numerous to mention. He was preceded in death by his father, Duke Russell, and his aunt and uncle, Isedore and Bud Vance whom he was very close to. Calling hours will be Tuesday, March 25th, from 4 p.m.to 6 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will follow the calling hours at 6 p.m. with Pastor Tim Jones officiating. Private burial in Ridgewood Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Rocky requested donations of dog food be given to the Jackson County Dog Pound. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com.
