Roger
Compston
May 4, 1959 – August 16, 2022
Roger Dale "Cat" Compston, age 63, of Wellston, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, in Wellston. He was born May 4, 1959 in Gallipolis, Ohio, the eldest son of Thomas R. Compston and Martha Jayne Vickers Compston of Wellston. Roger graduated from Wellston High School with the class of 1977. He was a proud veteran who served with the United States Marine Corps. Over the years, Roger held a variety of jobs which included Austin Powder, Goodyear Tire and Rubber, Central Location Services (CLS), National Hotel Reconditioning of Furniture and Fruehauf Trailers. He also cut firewood and made sure that many stayed warm in the winter months. Roger was a true outdoorsman. He could probably teach "Bear Grylls", from Wild National Geographic, a thing or two about the Appalachian Mountains. Roger came to life when outside picking blackberries and digging leeks, yellow root, ginseng and other native plants. Roger enjoyed studying Native American artifacts. He shared his knowledge with novice archaeologists from Ohio and surrounding states and received several honors for his arrowhead and Native American tool collections. Roger believed and received Jesus Christ as his Savior. He never met a stranger, always gave people a second chance, and he shared food, clothes and transportation for those in need. Roger is survived by his parents, Tom Compston and Jayne Compston; son, Teddy L. Compston; granddaughter, London Pierce Compston; siblings, Terry L. Conant, Donald L. Compston and Harold P. Compston. The family has requested a private memorial service and interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers and gifts, please consider making a donation in memory of Roger to one of the following: Ohio Archaeological Society, 1166 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Road, Suite 269, Fairborn, Ohio 45324 or Warriors 4 Christ Recovery Services, P.O. Box 56, Jackson, Ohio 45640. Arrangements are under the direction of the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com.
