Roger David Gray, Sr., age 78, of Hamden, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2024, at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.  He was born April 5, 1946 in Wellston, Ohio, son of the late Thomas R. Gray and Effie L. Hall Williams.  Roger graduated from Wellston High School with the class of 1964.  He retired from United Mine Workers and over the years was employed at Meigs Mine #2, Goodyear Tire and Rubber and Meridian.  Roger loved cheering for The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds.  He was a wonderful cook and baker who made dozens and dozens of cookies and fudge for everyone all around Jackson County.  Roger also enjoyed being outside doing yard work and spending time with his family, friends, dogs and granddog, Lizzy.  Roger was a member of the Ohio National Guard Reserves and the American Legion Post 371 of Wellston.  He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Cheryl L. Dillinger Gray; daughter, Francie Gray; daughter-in-law, Holly Gray; grandchildren, Quincey Kincaid, Dacey Manring, Taylor Crittenden, Oliver Manring, Mason Manring, Drake Gray and Xavier Gray; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Regina Mahle; sister, Beverly Arms; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gary and Beth Dillinger, David and Rita Dillinger, and Teresa Marquis, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David Gray; brother, Gary Gray; and sisters, Sharon McCord and Barbara Henry.  Calling hours will be Monday, October 21st, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  Funeral service will be Tuesday, October 22nd, at 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Baxter officiating.  Burial will follow in Zion Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions in Roger's memory be given to the Vinton County Dog Shelter, 31479 St. Rt. 93, McArthur, Ohio 45661.
