Obituary

Roger D. Ramsey, age 74, of Wellston, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at the Cleveland Clinic.  He was born August 18, 1949 in Gallipolis, Ohio to the late Daniel P. Ramsey and Mabel M. Gray Ramsey.  Roger graduated from Wellston High School with the class of 1968.  He was a member of the Army National Guard and served his country for 6 years.  Roger was a former auxiliary officer for both the Jackson Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.  He was a former employee of McNally Pittsburg Manufacturing in Wellston, and later retired from U.S.E.C. in Piketon, where he was employed for 25 years as a welder and a security police officer and member of the tactical response team.  Following his retirement, Roger was employed part-time with McWilliams Funeral Home, where he loved greeting and talking with the public.  Prior to his declining health, in his spare time Roger enjoyed woodworking, building remote-controlled airplanes, participating in car shows and going to air shows.  Most of all, Roger loved spending time with his family, which included over 40 family vacation trips to Holden Beach.  He attended the Wellston First Church of the Nazarene and Grace Baptist Fellowship.  Roger is survived by his wife of  almost 52 years, Mary E. Hill Ramsey; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Christy Ramsey of Wellston; daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Jeremiah Coleman of Hurricane, WV; grandchildren, Michael and Zach Ramsey, Gavin Niedbalski, and Brayden and Mason Coleman; brother and sister-in-law, Mel and Doris Ramsey of Simpsonville, SC; sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Joe Johnston of Dayton; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Patty Ramsey-Miller, Madge Hill, Janice Carter, Phyllis Henneman (Phil), Wade Hill (Judy), Carolyn Hill; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.  Besides his parents, Roger was preceded in death by brothers, Billy Ramsey, Jim Ramsey, and Daniel Ramsey II; sisters, Betty Ramsey, Marilyn Ramsey, Ila Compston, and Sharron Ramsey; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jesse and Bessie Hill; sister-in-law, Doris Ramsey; brothers-in-law, John Compston, Richard Hill, Neil Morath, and Harold Carter; and 2 grandbabies.  Calling hours will be Saturday, January 20th from 4 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  Funeral service will be Sunday, January 21st, at 2 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Don Fairchild and Pastor Tim Jones officiating.  Burial, with military honors, will follow in Ridgewood Cemetery.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com.
