Roy L. Arthur, Sr., age 83, of Jackson, passed away Tuesday evening, August 27, 2024, at Four Winds Community in Jackson, where he was cared for by his nurse and buddy, Shane, who loved and treated him like her own.  Roy was surrounded by family and friends for days leading to his passing.  He was born December 19, 1940 in Jackson, Ohio, son of the late Ray Louis Arthur and Hattie Ann Dillinger Arthur.  Roy was a loving husband, father, papaw and pappy.  He enjoyed spending time with his family (when he wasn't campaigning) and playing with all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  In his younger years, Roy enjoyed drag racing, painting cars, and doing anything to stay busy.  In his later years, he was always working and doing something to help others if he could.  Roy was a former employee of Gem Bottling Plant for 18 years, as well as doing lawncare for churches and residents in Jackson County.  Most importantly, Roy retired in 2021 from being a dedicated Bloomfield Township Trustee for 36 years, and President of the Jackson County Trustees Association for 24 of those years.  He was also a member of the Ohio Township Trustee and Clerk's Association.  Throughout the years, Roy had many accomplishments and received various awards honoring him from people such as: The Ohio House of Representatives, the Governor, Mayors, the Jackson County Commissioners, and many others.  The Jackson County Commissioners office honored and paid tribute to Roy for his hard work and commitment, and declared February 1, 2022, as "Roy Arthur Day" in Jackson County.  He still holds the record for obtaining the most memberships for the Ohio Township Trustee and Clerks Association at 543 members.  Roy worked tirelessly to make sure that not only his township was taken care of, but all the others as well.  His dedication, commitment, and legacy will forever be remembered, and he will be tremendously missed.  In honor of Roy, the family hopes that everyone continues "Working Together Where It Counts".  He is survived by his 2 children, Roy Arthur, Jr. (Paula) and Lisa Logan (Jerry); 9 grandchildren, Jamie Arthur (Tiffany), Jason Arthur (Becky), Kristin Compston, Nikki Johnson (Rich), Kiley Marshall (Scott), Amanda Logan, Adrianna Rosenberger (Levi), Kelsey Zeiner, and Kenzie Arthur; 19 great-grandchildren; 5 sisters, Esther Raike (Bill), Carol Fairchild (Sonny), Daisy Aldridge, Pam Ryster, and Bessie Beeman; brother, Curt Arthur (Diane); sister-in-law, Sharon Allen (Dale); along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Besides his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Janet; their infant son, Jeremy; 2 brothers, Gene Arthur and Donnie Arthur; sister, Dorothy Beckman; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.  Calling hours will be Saturday, August 31st, from 2 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  Funeral service will be Sunday, September 1st, at 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Jon Hensler officiating.  Following the funeral service, Roy will be laid to rest in Real Friends Cemetery in Pattonsville.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com.
