Obituary

Thomas E. Manring, Sr., age 80, of Wellston, passed away Monday, February 10, 2025, at Mount Carmel East Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.  He was born May 26, 1944 in Hamden, Ohio, son of the late Warren S. Manring and Edna J. Burris Manring.  Tom was a 1962 graduate of Wellston High School and a proud veteran of the United States Army who served during the Vietnam era. Tom retired from the B&O Railroad, where he was employed for over 25 years.  Following his retirement from the railroad, he worked at Goodyear in Jackson.  Tom was of the Catholic faith.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 371 of Wellston and a member and past commander of V.F.W. Post 9092 in Wellston.  Tom loved wheelin' and dealin'.  He enjoyed going to flea markets and yard sales as well as dealing in antiques.  Tom also enjoyed spending time outdoors, mushroom hunting, and being with his family, especially his grandchildren.  His favorite time of each day was when he took his little dogs for a walk through the streets of Wellston. Tom was an avid sports fan of several teams, especially the Wellston Golden Rockets, The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Bengals and the Cincinnati Reds.  He is survived by his children, Thomas Manring, Jr., Theresa Jayjohn (Ernest), and Jeremey "Byrd" Manring (Nicole); grandchildren, Brandon Manring (Michelle), Zachery Manring (Chelsee), Tomi Holzapfel (Josh), Ryan Manring, Tyler Manring (Maggie), Hannah Manring, Tori Manring, and Audrey Manring; siblings, Mary Phipps, Warren Manring, Anita Rhodes (Larry), Ron Manring (Patty), Harold Manring, Carolyn Jolly, and Roger Manring (Sandy), along with several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Besides his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Jan Theresa Lindauer Manring in 2009.  Calling hours will be Friday, February 14th, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  A Celebration of Life service, with military honors, will follow the calling hours at 7 p.m. with Pastor Travis Potts officiating.  In keeping with Tom's wishes, cremation will follow the service, and burial will be at a later date in Byer Cemetery.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com.
