Tom
Stetzer
December 21, 1941 – August 10, 2025
Thomas Lee "Tom" Stetzer, age 83, of Wellston, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2025, at the Holzer Medical Center in Jackson, Ohio. He was born December 21, 1941 in Columbus, Ohio, son of the late Albert L. Stetzer and Lucille A. Sponsellor Stetzer. Tom was a 1959 graduate of Mt. Zion High School and later received a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Findlay. Tom was a very gifted athlete, both in high school and college. He played basketball for 2 years at Kenyon College and then transferred to the University of Findlay where he played baseball for 2 years. Tom was a veteran of the United States Army who served during the Vietnam era. Following 35 years of employment, he retired from the State of Ohio for whom he was employed as a parole officer for the Department of Youth Services in Athens, Ohio. Tom was a deeply committed and loving father, husband and grandfather. While he may not have craved large social gatherings, his loyalty and love to those he held dear was unwavering. He invested deeply in his friendships, valuing quality over quantity. His voice, naturally gentle and low, would rarely rise above a calm murmur, making every word he chose to speak feel carefully considered and meaningful. He wasn't one to dominate conversations or seek the limelight, preferring instead to observe and listen attentively. As expected, Tom was a big sports fan who enjoyed cheering for the Cleveland Indians/Guardians, Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Cavaliers, and The Ohio State Buckeyes. Tom enjoyed traveling to various places with his wife and best friend, Emily, especially going to Goodyear, Arizona yearly for the Cleveland Guardian's MLB Spring training camp, which they attended for over 30 years. Locally, over the years, he played softball in the mid 1950's, and coached youth baseball. Tom is survived by his son, Tom Stetzer (Julie); grandchildren, Jack Stetzer (Matt), Natalie Stetzer, Carson Stetzer, Max Anderson (Courtney), Alex Strayer, and Josh Jones (Shelby); sister, Carolyn Bartlett (Doug), along with 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and friends. Besides his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Emily L. Whitt Stetzer on June 8, 2025; and his brother, Lyle Stetzer. Calling hours will be Friday, August 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will follow the calling hours at 1 p.m. with Pastor Tim Jones officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Ridgewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions in Tom's memory be given to the Michael J.
