Larry Thomas "Tom" Stevens, age 76, of Wellston, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.  He was born November 2, 1948 in Wellston, Ohio to the late John Stevens and Verona VanBibber Stevens.  Tom was always a hardworking man throughout his entire life.  At an early age, he started working at the Dairy Corner in Wellston, and in his teenage years he worked at Charlie Black's Horse Farm in Londonderry.  Tom graduated from Wellston High School with the class of 1966.  He was a very proud veteran of the United States Army who was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam era.  Following his return home from the military, he was employed at Western Auto and also for the Carpenter's Union as a drywall hanger.  Tom then continued working for another 27 years at Southern Ohio Coal Company until his retirement.  Even after retiring, he continued working, doing small construction jobs and projects alongside his 2 special friends, Ted Wolford and Eddie McGhee.  In his spare time, Tom enjoyed taking care of his cattle, dirt track racing, hunting, and was an avid golfer.  He enjoyed all sports, but he especially loved cheering for The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds.  Tom was a faithful attendee of the Jackson First Church of the Nazarene.  He was a member of the United Mine Workers Union Local #1857, the American Legion Post 371 in Wellston, and the AmVets Post 84 of Jackson.  He was a past member of the Farmer Sportsman Club and a former trustee for Evergreen Cemetery.  Tom is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia S. Swaney Stevens, whom he married on February 10, 1973; daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Tim Hill; grandsons, Peyton Hill and Carson Hill; brother, John Stevens (Mary); sisters, Sandy Bobo (Jerry) and Carolyn Stover; half-brother, Rick Bishop, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sherry and Tracy Brown and Janet and Donn Creamer; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wayne and Fredna Swaney; brother, Jim Stevens; half-brothers, Randy Bishop and Greg Bishop; and brothers-in-law, Gary Stover and Larry Swaney.  Calling hours will be Sunday, April 6th, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  Funeral service will be Monday, April 7th, at 11 a.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Erskine officiating.  Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com.
