Obituary

William V. "Bill" DePue, Jr., age 75, of Hamden, passed away peacefully after an extended illness on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Four Winds Community in Jackson, Ohio where he had resided since 2023.  He was born November 20, 1950 in Gallipolis, Ohio to the late William V. DePue, Sr. and Gertrude M. Pleasant DePue.  Bill was raised on a beef cattle farm near Hamden where he developed a strong work ethic to guide him throughout his life.  He continued operating the farm until recent years when his health no longer permitted.  Bill graduated from Vinton County Consolidated High School in 1968 and went on to attend Ohio University, majoring in social studies and elementary education, receiving a Baccalaureate Degree in 1972.  He was an elementary school teacher in the Vinton County School District, from where he retired following 33 years of service to his students and community.  After his retirement from teaching, Bill was elected to the Board of Directors of the Vinton County Soil and Water Conservation District, serving over 20 years.  Bill was a founder and life-long officer of the Appalachian Dirt Riders Club for 51 years.  He was a former active member of the Vinton County Cattleman's Association and an enthusiast of Allis Chalmers tractors.  Bill was held in high esteem by all who knew him.  He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Sharon DePue; nephew, Michael DePue, as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.  Along with his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his niece, Molly DePue.  Calling hours will be Monday, April 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  Additional calling hours will be held Tuesday morning, April 21, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with a graveside service following at 11 a.m. at Hamden Cemetery with Judge James Saylor officiating.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Bill's memory be given to the American Diabetes Association, P.O.
